Information on Timeshares for First Time Buyers

By Chris Channing

Buying a timeshare might be an overwhelming task, especially when pressured by company representatives and people that try to sell them to you on your vacation. Timeshares can be a great investment for many individuals. The market for timeshares can fluctuate a lot when there are high periods of demand for certain areas.

The concept of a timeshare was suggested and used in the 60s as a way to stop renting rooms but instead owning the hotel. This became very popular throughout the years as people started purchasing and owning timeshares for many different types of property. Timeshare properties are sold in units of time, usually basic week blocks that a person may own and use throughout the life of the timeshare agreement.

Resort designers started to use the concept of timeshares to sell out their rooms, even well before the completion of the building. This allowed for even more people to own the same property while maintaining a steady stream of new income. People bought timeshares directly from the resort designers to resell later on as well as for future usage. Going to a dealer of timeshares often meant paying more than you would have needed to if you bought it direct from the resort designers. Private parties often sell their unused timeshares.

Many different kinds of people will find a use for a timeshare. Property owners may see it as an opportunity to rent out their timeshare property. When timeshares are rented out on holidays and planned event dates, they can be charged at a higher price. People with set lifestyles may want a timeshare to have an yearly planned vacation.

Timeshares located in more popular areas of the world may carry a higher price. Time slots that lie in holidays, or properties that are in pristine beaches and other desirable lands may be sold for premium rates. Many resort builders use this to their advantage when building a resort with nicer amenities than a neighboring resort so they may charge a higher premium rate for their timeshare slots. It is a good idea to research land popularity and buying timeshares in less popular but nicer land so that when it becomes more popular the timeshare will be worth more for reselling or trading purposes.

Many reseller companies offer timeshares for sale. Timeshares can also be bought directly from the source, or from a private party. There are many online forums that were designed to discuss, sell, trade and buy timeshares.

Timeshares are great investments that allow their owners to have a definite spot to vacation and get away from their hectic lives. They can grow in value and can be sold later on at a profiting price. New buyers should research their options and get a timeshare that is right for them.
