Health Insurance Market is Feeling the Crunch

By Ethan Kalvin

It is completely understandable that the economy is taking precedence in everyone's thoughts recently, but it would be really refreshing to hear the Presidential Candidates pay a little more attention to the crisis going on in the health insurance industry in America.

Most people are probably unaware that insurance premiums have doubled within the past 18 months. What is more shocking is that the number of people who cannot afford health insurance is on the rise, and that means Americans are not getting the health care that they deserve.

Whether Americans have insurance or not, they still get sick, just the same. The only difference is that they remain ill until it either gets better on its own, or they take a turn for the worse and end up in the hospital. This scenario end sup costing more in the long run, as it would've been less expensive to be treated early on by a doctor.

Our country needs comprehensive care for everyone, and for our citizens to stop permitting insurance companies to say what fees are reasonable. When you think of how much we are charged for the amount of time we spend in a doctor's office for a visit, it seems like we are getting the bad end of the bargain.

At this point, Americans need to re asses and rebuild our health care system. Whether that means everyone has the same insurance plans or that we retain our individual plans and restructure our system, I am not sure. I am only sure of the need for a change.
