Which Presidential Candidate Has Advertised More On Health Care?

By Ethan Kalvin

Someone has posed an thought provoking question- Does the Presidential Candidate who spends more money on advertising their health plan equal the one who cares most about it? If you answered yes to this question, then the candidate who qualifies for this would be Barack Obama.

Senator Barack Obama has spent $113 million on advertising his health care plan on television. This includes 192,000 commercials during 2008, reported Politico. Also, Obama has blown 68 percent of his advertising budget on health care alone. In October alone, his campaign will raise spending to 86 percent of that budget.

Obama's spending makes McCain's spending look miniscule. Senator John McCain spent $261,000 on October on commercials for his health care reform plan. He had 11,300 commercials made. McCain's total budget was dwarfed by Obama's spending $29 million more than he.

So, the question is whether Obama's spending has shown any results? A Kaiser Health Tracking Poll says that 54 percent of voters side with Obama's plan, while only 25 percent side with McCain. AS you can see, Obama has an edge there.

Obviously, Obama is focused on health care reform, that does not mean he cares more than McCain. The reason is that Obama can spend whatever he wants on whatever he wants, he has the money. In September alone, he raised a staggering $150 million! Think about what that equals a day! McCain has only $84 million total to spend for the entire General Election. Obviously, this is why Obama can rule television with his health care commercials.
