Car Rental Booking Online

By Dane Masters

Online car rental booking has become an important aspect of a traveler's life, regardless of whether the travel purpose is for business or pleasure. No one wants to leave the house on an important business trip, vacation or short family trip without having a rental car handy. Some rental car companies, such as Hertz and Enterprise, maintain extensive websites for online bookings. These allow users to compare and reserve different vehicle types, usually up to 24 hours in advance. As with all reservations, there are a few things to keep in mind before choosing and booking a car.

Firstly, the rental price is always subjected to change and what you see online is just the price for renting the car, usually displayed as the daily rate. The actual cost is a lot more, considering the fuel charges, insurance and deposits.

Then, if you don't have comprehensive or at least sufficient vehicle insurance, you must inquire about temporary auto insurance from the car rental company. Different states have different rates for insurance and the tax related to it, but auto insurance is compulsory for rental cars. Knowing that any quoted price will not be the amount you get in your invoice is crucial to avoiding a shock after you reserve the car.

Another important consideration in booking a car rental online is what type of vehicle is best suited for the purpose of the consumer. Ranging from economy to passenger vans, car rental web sites offer a wide range of options.

The best way to think about the type of car to rent online is to take the cargo and passenger capacity of the vehicle of interest and take the next highest type of car. For example, someone interested in a standard-sized car may want to take a full-sized car to ensure that they have enough space for their trip.
