Can You Locate A Profitable Blog Niche?

By Dale D Bigio

Discovering a profitable blog niche should be an action carefully researched before acting. If you're only purpose is to start a blog about your family, then obviously it doesn't matter what subject you cover. On the other hand, if you're wanting to make money from blogging, the niche you choose is very important. You'll need to know how much competition there is in a niche, how well does it pay, are there any affiliate programs for your niche and so forth.

What I'll be trying to do here is to get you thinking outside the box when choosing a profitable niche. I'll show you that it doesn't matter if you're a new blogger to the Internet or a seasoned pro. My tactics will allow you to search out profitable niches in any field.

Categorizing Your Interest

The advantage of starting out with something you're knowledgeable and passionate about is that you'll have plenty of ideas to blog about. One of the biggest failing points for bloggers is finding something to continually blog about. This is why it's important to choose something you know and have interest in. It doesn't matter all that much what the niche is. Perhaps you love to Cook, sew, work with wood, play Soccer or watch professional football. Any of these niches can be profitable. If you're truly passionate about a subject, you're more likely to turn out interesting and informative articles. This will keep the traffic to your blog coming in, thus making your niche a profitable one.

The interests of the blogger may run the gamut from subjects which are widely popular to subjects which are of interest to only a small subset of the population. However, there will likely be interested readers regardless of the subject of the blog. Therefore bloggers are not discouraged from opting to blog about even the most obscure subjects. However, bloggers who are seeking financial gain through high blog traffic should consider selecting a topic which appeals to a larger audience.

Learning About Your Competition

Once a blogger has selected one or more subjects he is considering for a blog, it is time to begin evaluating the competition. This includes viewing other blogs covering the same subject matter. This will not only give the blogger a good indication of whether or not the market is already saturated with blogs on this subject and the quality of the existing blogs on this subject. Based on this information the blogger can make an informed decision about whether or not he feels capable of competing for blog traffic with the existing blogs.

Deciding What the Purpose of Your Blog Should Be

Another consideration the potential new blogger needs to consider is the purpose of the blog. Blogs are created everyday for one reason or another. Maybe someone's ticked off at a company and starts a negative blog about the company. Perhaps an activist starts a blog to recruit other like minded people to their cause. Those are all well and fine. However, if you're starting a blog to make income from, you'll want to first make sure there is enough interest in your niche to drive traffic to your blog. Without traffic, you'll just be blogging to be blogging!

With that being said, it's very important a new blogger choose an interest that is capable of driving traffic to their blog. The subject should be somewhat popular or broad enough where your message can reach a large audience. If you've chosen an interest of yours that you have knowledge in and are passionate about, then this step will be rather easy for you.
