Domain Name & Web Hosting

By Anand

Providing Cyberspace to an individual or an organization is specifically defined as Web Hosting. Domain Name is a unique name given to a particular Web Site that works as the identity of that site on the web. No two domain names can be the same. Normally Domain Name has two or more parts within it. These parts are separated by dots. The left part can be defined as the most exclusive part whereas the right part can fall in the general category.

Sometimes it can also be observed that a specific Domain Name exist but it is not connected to an actual server. This doesn't mean that the particular Domain Name has no value or it is out of order. It is done this way so that the individual or business organization owning the domain name can access the Internet e-mail account without establishing an Internet connection. The individual or the business organization can collect or receive the mail through any Computer, which on the other hand, handles the mail on behalf of the listed Domain Name.

There are many web hosting companies that provide domain hosting services to different business organizations or any individual, which is providing them a Domain Name. It is not mandatory that the company, which is providing you with the Domain name, is hosting your Web Site. First of all you need to register with the domain name you wish to get for your website and also check its availability. If any other company has already registered with that particular name, you might need to change it or modify it slightly.

The registration fee varies from one company to the other. And the price depends on how long the business organization or individual site owner wants to be registered for. Normally registering for a longer period of time cost them less money compared to those with short span of time. The newly registered domain name starts working within forty-eight hours after filling up the necessary documents like application forms and after the payment is made.

If you are just parking the domain name for using it later then you should not worry about the technical information. You can obtain these informations later on also. If you have not yet decided on which server you will be hosting the Web Site, it is obvious that you will not know the name server address as well. But it is alright if you register for the time being and update the name server later on. This can be of great benefit for an organization who has not decided yet where to host its Web Site.

The term "parking" comes into picture in those scenarios wherein the web hosting companies put up a web page on the Internet mentioning that the page is already registered by someone. This makes sure that the domain name cannot be used by anyone else. But until and unless you mention the name server, people will not be able to send you mails and you will not be able to change the appearance of the new web site until you login and enter the "DNS Name Server" information provided by the Web Hosting Company.

This is all about domain hosting which you can select if you have specific name requirements.
