Do Not Stop And Smell The Flowers!

By Mr WebbyFied

In the online world of business, where innovation and ideas are created and made obsolete faster than we can hope to keep up, the road can get rough. The path we walk usually starts off pretty dreary and gray, and it's usually pretty difficult to take a straight shot down that road, no matter how sober we are. The thing about this "road" is the flowers off to the side are usually much more inviting than the road itself. They invite us to smell, and to distract ourselves, if just for a few minutes.

Those are absolutely DEADLY flowers!

If you stop to smell those flowers, hell, if you look at them too long, you are systematically burying your progress, and your business, in the dirt. You may as well post a sign that says "Lose All Hope, Ye Who Enter Here" because you're not going to last very long. Sound a little harsh? It might seem a little extreme, but I don't think so.

When you are caught up in smelling the flowers (answering unimportant calls, texts, emails, surfing the web) you are not only stopping all progress you have made for the time being, you are in effect moving backwards!

How can that be?

Because when you do things that keep you from actual important things, you put the important stuff on the back burner. Not only are those necessary tasks not being finished, but most of the time, when you finally get back to them, you don't remember where you were. You can't remember what you were finishing up, and you no longer have the momentum and flow that you had when you decided to "smell the flowers". Working for yourself, especially online, is a game of momentum. You have to use it as much as you can when you have it.

Now, that is best case scenario. A lot of times, you won't even get back to work!

Do you see now how smelling those flowers will slowly kill your business, and your dreams?

What's worse is even looking at the flowers can prevent you from getting anything done. What does that mean? How much time do you waste thinking about the things you would rather be doing, or all of the things you could be doing, instead of what you need to be doing?

That is looking at the flowers, and not remembering that there is a path ahead that you have to leave your mark upon.
