With no shortage of folks rushing to get their slice of the internet pie you must stand out and learn a few critical skills to survive and thrive in this competitive environment. Having the necessary skills will allow you to succeed in this ever changing world of internet marketing.
Though it isn't an easy thing to do, it is very simple. Consistency is the name of the game. Far too many times I see marketers advertising there business in a certain medium and then a few days later their gone, never to return. Staying on top of you marketing efforts daily is the key to your long term success.
In my experience, there are three basic areas you must consider and maintain to stay on top of the game. As an analogy, I'll reference the sport of boxing in terms of your attack.
1. Knowledge is your most critical defense weapon. Through education you will more effectively execute your game plan. It will give you the tools to defend yourself against bad opportunities, minor setbacks and poor marketing methods.
2. Discipline is that steady and consistent jab. Your jab is the constant motion and the focus you need to wear on your opponent. Your opponents are the other marketers (good or bad) lobbying for your potential clients. Your focus and discipline will allow you to stay the course when others get distracted, quit or go in another direction.
3. Credibility is your powerful right hook. This is where business happens in the market. Its when someone has been adequately convinced that your product or service is of value. If people don't like or trust the vendor or anything about your company they will refrain from doing business with you. This is crucial to having success online.
Because credibility seems to be the cohesive quality that brings it all together at the point of sale you must stay focused on building this over time. Presenting yourself as a professional is just not enough anymore. You must possess leadership and a command for your subject matter that makes customers feel that you bring value to their lives.
The best way to do this is by sharing ideas, strategies and techniques with your visitors and position yourself as an expert. Anything you learn, be willing to share it and you will gain many trusting fans that will want to learn from you and purchase your goods and services.
There is way too much competition on the internet for you to expect things to come to you. If you want to succeed online you must be willing to stretch yourself and go the extra mile. People will appreciate you and look to you for leadership and direction. Once this starts to happen thats when things really start moving and shaking.
