Article Writing - A Good Affiliate Marketing Tool

By Charles McDuffie

The rewards of writing articles to promote your affiliate program(s) can indeed be tremendous. But have you ever thought about how the two go together? Probably not. So let's begin with an explanation about what affiliate marketing is.

What is Affiliate Marketing?

Earning commissions for selling a company's products and/or services is affiliate marketing, and article writing is certainly one of a number of ways to earn commissions and boosting your sales in short order. Let's take a look at how it works.

Becoming an affiliate for a particular company is the first step, and there numerous companies out there for you to promote their products or services. One thing you want to look for is a company that'll pay you healthy commissions which could be based upon a certain percentage of your sales, or a flat rate commission. Performance is the key when earning commissions, and they'll be based entirely on your ability to sell.

This Is How To Make Your Article Sell.

The basic requirements are:

Write a quality article that includes an equally good resource box

I'm sure you're familiar with article writing tips, and you may already have a good deal of experience as a good writer. That's great. So let's move on to the issue of exactly what makes for a good resource box.

What is a Resource Box?

A resource box contains information about the author, and is provided at the end of the article. It's a very important marketing channel, so be sure to make this a mandatory part of your article writing.

Here are some important items that you should include in your resource box.

Your name: Put your name as the author of the article, not necessarily your title.

Your website address: Provide a valid URL, for example http://your name.com.

An attention-grabbing slogan: Think of this as being a classified ad, where you give a 2 to 3 line sentence brief about you and your product and/or service. This is where you can tell people about what separates you (or your product) from the competition, and gives you the opportunity to demonstrate your unique selling proposition.

Your call to action: Since most people are lazy and procrastinate, you've must use the kind of power words that'll motivate them to visit your website. You could say something like, "To find out about this product, click here.

Your contact information: This should include a valid e-mail address and/or phone number in case someone need or wants to contact you about your article. Keep in mind that once your article has been submitted to the various article directories, e-zine publishers and webmasters, it'll be almost impossible to retract anything you've stated in the article.

Here are some dos and don'ts:

Only post relevant URL's on your website.

Stay focused upon your article writing and don't go astray from your main objective, which is to tell your readers how your product and/or service is going to benefit them if they use it. You might think that people want to know about your past accomplishments, but they don't. If you try to tell people about what you've done in the past, it'll be waste of both your time and theirs.

Keep your resource box short - no more than one-fifth of your article size.

There's no question that boosting your marketing strategy by means of writing articles is something you should seriously consider. It's one of the most effective ways in helping you enhance your image in the affiliate marketing industry.
